those who need to lose over 100 pounds, losing meaningful weight can be very difficult. Weight loss surgery can be ideal in this situation. Not only does surgery end the frustration, it can put you back on the road to a healthier you.

Bariatric surgery, commonly known as weight loss surgery, is now proudly offered by Dr. Jabush. This surgery can be offered in three ways: through laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, or lap band surgery, gastric bypass surgery, and gastric sleeve resection.

Dr. Jondavid Jabush, now performs gastric banding, or Lap-Band® surgery, at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. Through extensive training at Hackensack University Medical Center, Dr. Jabush can also guide you through the process for gastric bypass surgery and gastric sleeve resection.

How to determine which surgery is right for you

You are a candidate for bariatric surgery if your body mass index (BMI) is over 40 (to calculate your BMI, go to In addition, you are a candidate for bariatric surgery if you have a BMI of 35 or above AND suffer from medical conditions associated with obesity (high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.).

The most commonly performed procedures are laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, and laparoscopic gastric bypass. In addition, laparoscopic gastric sleeve resection is also becoming more widespread. Because surgeons need to cut across the stomach with either bypass or sleeve resection, there is a higher risk of complications after surgery. With banding, no organs are cut and therefore, there is less risk for complications.

Typically, if you have been able to lose weight in the past only to regain the weight, the adjustable band might be the right solution for you. If, on the other hand, you have never been able to lose any weight, gastric bypass or the sleeve resection might be a better option.
